Plastic Bags: One Year's Worth
Plastic: It surrounds your everyday life. Could you live without it? What about a small change to wean your use of plastic? 400 plastic bags: the amount of bags used by a single person every year. Can we cut that in half? Or more?
This event was held at the Capitol building on February 9th, to raise awareness of our plastic bag usage. Currently, SB2511 is being debated to decide the future of a plastic bag fee in Hawaii. The bill proposes that a fee be imposed on all single use plastics bags from retailers, unless the customer brings their own reusable bags. This is a decision we can make for ourselves. It isn't too expensive, and it doesn't take much time. Get a few reusable bags and leave them in your car; grab them on your way into the store. Change your thinking and change your mind; it is the only way you will change your life.
